Migraciones y Trayectos Identitarios en la Musica Popular.

La Cultura del Consumo Musical en la Era Digital.

This paper offers an examination to the social dimension of the musical changes, from the understanding of the role of place and the human migrations as references of sense and potential elements for musical evolution. It examines the symbolic force of the peripheral and multicultural suburban zones as powerful sites for new cultural and musical movements. This text regards some theories above the cultural changes generated by the intercultural contact, like the concept of “hybridization” from Néstor Garcia Canclini or “the cultural location” of Homi Bhabha, in particular with reference to the discussion about how to understand from communication and cultural studies the new fronts of intercultural contacts and conflicts in the context of a large technological transformations. The migrations and intercultural encounters, the global growth of the audio-visual markets, the digital communication expansion, the transformations of the cultural industries and their commercial policies; all of them are phenomena closely related to the musical fields, nowadays. As some authors like Manuel Castells or Jeremy Rifkind have pointed out, the phenomenon of the globalisation in the present period of advanced Capitalism, constitutes a large intensification in the mobility of capitals, merchandise and the labour force, which is visible in generalized migratory movements (mainly of the south to north). The migration has also implied the mobilization of the suburban peripheral cultures and its implantation and redefinition in the great metropolitan centres. As it was indicated from Gonzalo April, in the industrialized countries such redefinition is managed and manipulated by the industries and the cultural market through mercantile recycling of the value and the cultural difference under the forms of exotic merchandise, spectacle and aesthetic re-presentations of the poverty. In synthesis it is a redefinition of social conflicts in the orbit of the consumption and leisure circuits in detriment of egalitarian and emancipator projects of migrants.
